How do you get from Cusco airport to the historic centre?

Updated October 25, 2026 · 4 min read

A car approaching Cusco through dense brick neighbourhoods beneath green Andean hills

For most arrivals, book the One-Way Airport Transfer to Hotel: a private transfer between Alejandro Velasco Astete airport and hotels in central Cusco, in either direction. It is listed at 25 minutes and from €10.71 per person, and it is the most-reviewed airport transfer for Cusco on GetYourGuide, with 4.9 out of 5 from 127 reviews. Its closest rival costs the same but has far fewer reviews. If you would rather settle the ride at the terminal, read the last section first.

The VIP transfer costs exactly the same as the first one, so the label does not raise the price, but it has not built up the first one’s track record either. The cheapest option is the only one whose description mentions help with your luggage, and it is also the lowest rated, from only 7 reviews. Nothing in these descriptions says how the three differ in car size or waiting time, so do not read more into the names than the listings contain.

What the main listing says, and what it leaves out

The description of the first transfer is brief: a private ride from the airport to downtown hotels, or from the hotel to the airport, meant to start or end your stay without hassle. The price is quoted per person, so for a group check the total in the booking form rather than assuming it covers the whole car.

It does not state the meeting point, the luggage allowance or how long a driver waits after a late landing. The 25 minutes is the product duration, not a promise for every ride through Cusco traffic. Read the booking page for those points before you pay, and enter your hotel’s full name and address; “the centre” is not an address.

When to wait until you land

Arranging a ride at the terminal keeps you flexible if your hotel or flight time is still open, and it can suit a solo traveller with a small bag. The cost is that price, meeting point and payment get settled when you are tired from the journey. We quote no taxi or bus fares because we could not verify any; ask at the airport and agree the fare before you get in.

Our recommendation

On a first visit, book the One-Way Airport Transfer to Hotel: it has by far the most reviews of the three, the same price as the VIP version and a duration shorter than either of the others. Choose the VIP version only if you specifically want a vehicle described as exclusive and accept the smaller review base. Skip the cheapest one unless 7 reviews at 3.6 stars do not worry you.
